Do you think you may have dyslexia?
Dyslexia can have an impact on many aspects of daily life. Far too often people have not had a diagnosis during childhood and have struggled to overcome a range of barriers in both education and employment. This can sometimes lead to poor self-esteem, poor career progression and negative experiences associated with school and education.
The following are just some of the signs of dyslexia:
- Finding spelling difficult
- Struggling to read quickly, difficulty decoding unfamiliar words or difficulty taking in what has been read
- Finding it hard to get ideas ‘out of your head’ and on to paper
- Confusing visually similar letters and words
- Finding it hard to take notes and to listen at the same time
- Finding it hard to organise time and belongings
- Feeling anxious when trying out new things in education or the workplace which require efficient reading or writing skills
- Finding it hard to remember information without writing it down or needing time to process information
- Needing longer than others to complete a task or finding some tasks more challenging than others
- Finding it easier to explain a concept or idea than to write it down
- Good at problem solving and the ability the ‘think outside the box’
- Strengths in areas of creativity or practical skills
